Kinja'd!!!

Good evening Oppo,

As many of you know, I made a huge life decision a few months ago to move to Toronto, Ontario with the intention to advance my career. Today, I’ve decided to leave the position I moved for to chase a career in the automotive industry, to follow my passions and ultimately my happiness.

I’m not one to normally ask for help but I’ve learned a lot from a position that wasn’t the right fit. I’ve learned sometimes you do need to ask for help. So Oppo I was wondering if I could enlist your help.

If anyone does work in the automotive industry in Ontario or in Detroit and would be willing to help me break into the industry I would be more than grateful. This community has been ever so kind and has helped me through countless life events and I hope I’ve been able to help others as well.

I understand some may not want to identify themselves publicly and in that advent, please email me at alxrnv@icloud.com

Basics: I come from the startup world, with over half a decade of experience in digital marketing, location based marketing, technical project management, product management and customer success.

And Multimatic too.

Multimatic is probably the most enterprising start-up-ish (in mindset anyway) automotive company in Ontario that I can think of. They’re building the Ford GT and I assume they’re behind at least some if not all of the engineering for that car. They’ve got other projects as well. They were probably one of the most coveted co-op employers that hired from my school.

Engineered Automotive is a shop that does some high end automotive projects in Vaughan.

I worked for Promatek (R&D for Visa, which is a Magna division) for a bit and while they do some cool things as well, it’s pretty much strictly engineering.

As others have mentioned, Honda has a factory in Alliston, Toyota in Cambridge and Woodstock. There’s also Ford in Mississauga, FCA in Brampton and GM in Oshawa. Not sure how much I’d recommend any of those, given your field and background. You may tire of the huge corporate structure and the restrictions that brings.

All of the above have suppliers in the area that manufacture the necessary parts, such as the aforementioned Magna, so those may be worth looking into. Not sure how much marketing type personally they need though.

Maybe look into some of the more high end dealers in the city (Pfaff comes to mind). They might offer some neat opportunities in marketing/events.

If I think of anything else I’ll try to remember to let you know.

Wow! Thank you so much for the comprehensive list. I’m going to start hunting through them. I know GM has a ton of openings right now but it seems like the supplier market out here is far far bigger. I’ll dig into that! Thank you again :D

I would suggest where I am (Stratford) but the market is iffy at best. I drive past a lot of warehouses that used to be factories...
